Black Mold Removal

Black Mold is a big health problem, and removing black mold is extremely important to maintain good health. Here are some tips you can follow to help get rid of your black mold problem:

1. You must take care of the moisture problem. This is most important. If you cannot identify the source of the water accumulation then the fungal growth and spread will continue. If the area is a high humidity area, then it would be advisable to get a room dehumidifier. You do not want the relative humidity to be higher than 55%, and to be able to test that you will need to purchase a humidistat. This is a device that tests moisture in the air.

2. To remove mold, you will need to seal off the area and minimize the dust from removal. The reason you do this is to reduce the number of mold spores from spreading. They become airborne. So, you will need to seal off and clean one room at a time. The way you do this is to get some plastic sheeting and some duct tape to cover the doorways and vents that can lead to other parts of the building or home.

If you can get one, get an exhaust fan. Put in next to an open window or door that leads to the outside. This creates what is called negative pressure which will direct the air with spores in it to the outside, and not to other parts of the home or building. During the cleaning process, the spores will be stirred up, and negative air pressure will create a vaccuum that leads out.

Minimizing the dust will also help the spread of black mold spores. You can purchase air purifier to help minimize the particulate matter in the air and therefore lessen the threat of black mold spore spreading to other areas of the structure.

3. To clean the mold, lightly spray with water if the surface is very dry. This will help reduce the chance of the spores spreading. Use a soap solution with water to get rid of as much mold as possible. When you have gotten all you can, use a disinfectant to kill remaining mold spores. Allow the area to completely dry after you have removed the mold.

4. Use heavy duty plastic bags to remove and dispose of the mold. Try not to transport them around the house. Put them through a window and take them to any landfill.

Follow these steps and you should be able to effectively remove your black mold problem.
