Indoor mold is a common inconvenience to homeowners. Houses that are home to certain types of indoor mold can be the cause of asmtha, infections, cough, trouble breating, and often, headaches.
Common types of indoor mold include : Stachybotry or Cladosporium, which both are dark in color or Aspergillus, which is light in color. Here are some other types of mold. When inspecting an indoor mold, you should not inhale too deeply, and you may even choose to wear a small mask over your nose and/or mouth.
Mold is most likely to form around areas in the walls, ceilings, floors, carpets and other places where water damage or water leakage may/have occurred. This is because mold thrives in moist places.
In order to keep your home as mold-free as possible, follow these tips:
*Use kitchen,bath, and laundry room fans/ventilation in order to keep humidity in your home to a minimum. .
*If it is hot and/or humid in your home, run the air-conditioner.
*If it is cold outside, you can use a dehumidifier to control the humidity in your home.
* Use baking soda to clean carpeted areas in your home on a regular basis.
*Use vinegar-based cleaning products in the bathroom and kitchen areas in your home.
*Keeping your home under or at 75 degrees Fahrenheit can stunt,slow, and even prevent growth of mold.
*Keeping the humidity level in your home at or below 54 percent will help slow, stunt, and prevent the growth of indoor mold.
*Thoroughly wash and dry any rugs,clothing,curtains, or other fabric that has been affected by mold
*Some porous surfaces, such as wood, cannot be completely rid of indoor mold. Things that cannot be thoroughly cleaned should be thrown away or replaced. For instance, moldy wood should be sanded down.
*Sold surfaces should be scrubbed with an organic soap of some kind.
*Clean any and all areas that have been affected by mold with a solution of 1 part chlorine bleach and 3 parts water. Let the solution sit on the mold for around an hour to kill the mold.
Keeping the temperature and humidity in your home under control are the two best ways to ensure that your home will be mold free. Upkeep in the condition of the pipes, roof, and other areas that are prone to water damage and moisture will also help. By following the above tips, your home should stay mold free.
